Nihar Associates was employed to author the Maintenance Philosophy report for our client’s highly-automated rolling stock maintenance workshop.
This work involved performing holistic assessment of the maintainable assets within the workshop, and mapping out numerous three-year base-case options and scenarios to determine the most efficient shutdown scheme and manning profile based on the workshop’s maintenance, production, resource, and availability requirements (i.e. number of ore cars/day).
Overall Nihar Associates:
- Developed a ‘maintainability diagram’ for all assets in the workshop, showing their operational interdependencies.
- Provided our client with the shutdown scheme and manning profiles required to optimise plant availability, production, and resource utilisation (which included identifying the required mix of internal and external resources).
- Tailored the philosophy to ensure that it met all safety and statutory obligations, was aligned with certain vendor recommendations, and complied with our client’s internal standards relating to maintenance.
- Included an in-depth assessment of the impacts of the Maintenance Philosophy on spare part management and warehousing, such that spares holding practices could be aligned with maintenance practices.
